25th Oct 2009...............................Nick Kacal-bass

Nick Kacal is a freelance double-bassist who also has his own trio- Guerillasound.

After graduating from Salford University in 1990 with a degree in Electro-Acoustics, Nick worked as a free-lance double-bassist, playing with a large and eclectic assortment of artists. He has played with too many obscure jazz musicians to list; his interest in other kinds of music has been assuaged by playing and recording with acts like Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks, Ado Matheson, Songdog, TD Lind, The Loose Cannons Morag McLaren, Zoey Schwartz and John Etheridge. He has played and toured in France, Germany, Cape Verde and all over the UK, including Ronnie Scott's in London and festivals such as Womad, Brecon Jazz and the Edinburgh Festival.

As an engineer and producer, recognising the frustrations of working in studios with an emphasis on Midi and sampling, he has specialised in live location recording of acoustic music, ensembles, unusual instrumentations, difficult acoustic environments and sound for film/video. Previous recording work includes UK jazz artists, live cabaret and classical chamber ensembles. Most recently he has worked as producer and mixer on an album for Aled Thomas, and as producer for Songdog, whose CD will be out October 2007 on One Little Indian records.

The line up tonight is Nick Kacal-bass, Greg Heath-sax, Nick Meier-piano, Noel Joyce-drums.
